Testimony 29/08/05: If You Can

Mark 9: 21-24

21Jesus asked the boy's father, "How long has he been like this?"

"From childhood," he answered. 22"It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us."

23" 'If you can'?" said Jesus. "Everything is possible for him who believes."

24Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, "I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!"

The evil spirit possessed the child since childhood. It threw him into convulsions and into the fire. The father had tried ever since to find a cure for his boy. He went everywhere. He tried everything. He was desperate. He was tired. He came to Jesus, pleaded, “If you can….”

Perhaps you too have been disappointed. Perhaps you have been struggling with a sickness for a long time. Perhaps your spouse walks away from you only to leave you with a broken heart. May be the same problem keeps coming up at work. Perhaps the same bullies approach you every morning at school. May be your family is not saved and you start losing hope. You tried every mean possible. You go everywhere. You are tired. You come to Jesus, desperate, pleading, “If you can, heal me!” “If you can, take this hurt away from me!” “If you can, solve this problem for me!” “If you can, help me!”

“If you can?” Jesus answers, “Everything is possible for him who believe.”

Indeed! There is healing in God. There is solution in Him. There is help. There is future. There is wholeness. There is power. There is hope in Jesus. Put your hope in Him! (Psalm 42:5)

May our prayer be, “Lord, I do believe. Help me overcome my unbelief.”
